Tech Pack & Product Definition

Merchandising translates the buyer concept into one controlled product specification shared by design, development, sourcing, production, and quality teams.

Bill of Materials Control

The BOM defines every material, trim, label, packaging item, consumption, supplier, colour, placement, and approval requirement.

  • Assign unique item codes and descriptions to prevent substitution
  • State composition, construction, size, colour, finish, unit, and supplier
  • Link each component to placement and relevant artwork or standard
  • Calculate net consumption, process loss, wastage, and order quantity
  • Track lab dip, strike-off, trim, bulk, and test approvals by colourway
  • Reconcile BOM revisions with purchase orders and factory stock

Costing & Consumption

Accurate costing combines validated material consumption, labour content, processing, overhead, commercial terms, and risk allowances.

  • Calculate fabric consumption from marker, width, GSM, shrinkage, and wastage
  • Include thread, trims, labels, packaging, testing, washing, printing, and embroidery
  • Use approved SMV and labour rate for cut-make cost
  • Separate variable cost, overhead, finance, freight, duty, and margin
  • Record currency, exchange rate, incoterm, MOQ, lead time, and validity
  • Update costing whenever specification, material, process, or order quantity changes

Critical Path & Approvals

The time-and-action calendar protects delivery by linking dependencies, ownership, planned dates, actual dates, and escalation rules.

  • Plan proto, fit, size set, pre-production, shipment, and photo samples
  • Schedule lab dips, strike-offs, trims, fabric, tests, and bulk approvals
  • Work backward from ex-factory date using realistic transit and production lead times
  • Flag dependencies and identify the true critical path
  • Escalate late approvals with quantified delivery impact
  • Hold pre-production meeting only when readiness evidence is complete

Pre-Production & Troubleshooting

Production release requires approved product, materials, capacity, quality controls, and commercial alignment.

  • Verify PP sample, graded patterns, BOM, test reports, shade bands, and packing
  • Confirm capacity, line plan, machines, attachments, skills, and subcontractors
  • Late material: prioritize approval, source risk, split delivery, or recovery plan
  • BOM mismatch: stop issue, reconcile revision, and quantify affected quantity
  • Cost overrun: identify specification, yield, price, or productivity variance
  • Document every approved exception with owner, scope, validity, and buyer authority
