Tolerance Principles
A tolerance is the permitted deviation from the specified finished measurement, not a target for production variation.
- The specification remains the production target
- Set tolerances by measurement criticality and product function
- Use tighter limits for openings, mating parts, and safety dimensions
- Account for fabric stretch, shrinkage, thickness, and garment size
- Buyer tolerances always override generic guidance
- Do not offset one out-of-tolerance point with another point
