Fabric Relaxation & Preparation

Cutting accuracy begins with controlled fabric receipt, shade segregation, relaxation, and verification against the approved material standard.

  • Identify rolls by supplier, lot, shade, width, length, and inspection status
  • Relax knits and stretch fabrics for the validated time and presentation
  • Control room temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and fabric storage
  • Verify face, nap, one-way direction, bow, skew, defects, and usable width
  • Confirm shrinkage, GSM, shade band, and approval status before spreading
  • Issue rolls through a traceable roll and lay allocation plan

Marker Planning

Markers convert approved patterns and order ratios into a cut plan that protects grain, matching, quality, and material utilization.

  • Use only approved pattern and specification revisions
  • Include grain lines, nap direction, checks, stripes, prints, and face requirements
  • Respect splice zones, end allowance, buffer, and usable width
  • Calculate marker efficiency = pattern area ÷ marker area × 100
  • Plan size ratios and marker lengths against roll availability
  • Validate paired parts, notches, drill marks, and mirrored components

Spreading & Cutting

Stable plies, controlled tension, and correct equipment prevent dimensional distortion and component mismatch.

  • Set ply height within machine, fabric, and quality capability
  • Spread without tension, edge curl, bowing, ripples, or trapped folds
  • Control face-up, face-to-face, nap-one-way, or nap-either-way mode
  • Secure lays without distorting stretch or delicate materials
  • Use straight knife, band knife, die, laser, or automated cutter as appropriate
  • Check top, middle, and bottom plies for cutting accuracy

Fusing, Numbering & Bundling

Post-cut controls preserve component identity and ensure compatible parts reach sewing together.

  • Validate fusing temperature, pressure, dwell time, cooling, and peel strength
  • Check strike-through, bubbling, shrinkage, yellowing, and delamination
  • Number parts using a method compatible with colour and end use
  • Keep shade, size, ply, and garment components together
  • Bundle to line capacity and avoid excess WIP
  • Reconcile recuts, replacements, remnants, and issued quantities

Quality Control & Troubleshooting

Cutting-room controls use first-lay approval, dimensional audits, defect maps, and root-cause containment.

  • Audit pattern-to-cut deviation at critical points and notches
  • Contain mixed shade, mixed size, missing parts, and wrong-direction cuts
  • Ragged edges: reduce ply height or service blade and cutting speed
  • Top-to-bottom variation: improve lay stability and vacuum control
  • Fusing failure: verify interlining match and process parameters
  • Track utilization, end loss, splice loss, recut rate, and cutting defects
